Hi Lovelies!

I’m so excited to introduce you to this month’s Babe Behind the Brand, Tahlia from Wylde Folk Studio. I first met Tahlia in 2017 when I was pregnant with Bambino and modelled for a maternity dress brand. I remember her as so vibrant in a soft and kind way, so lovely and encouraging, and was shocked when I found out afterwards that she had very recently lost her angel baby Delilah. Not long after Bambino was born I went to an event with my best friend Dianne and put all my tickets into one of the raffle prizes… a family session with Tahlia. To my delight I won (to see our beautiful family photos from almost 18 months ago click here), and even more exciting not long after Tahlia announced she was expecting little Peaches! I kept in contact with Tahlia on Instagram and when I would see her at Brisbane events, and I loved watching her little family and her business grow. Not long ago Tahlia gave up her job as a wedding coordinator to focus on her ever growing photography business, and I recently had the pleasure of shooting with her!

Honestly the most complimentary and lovely photographer I’ve ever worked with, I’d book her just for an hour of the kind compliments! Ha ha! So grab a cuppa and get ready to read more about the beautiful soul that is the Babe Behind the Brand of Wylde Folk Studio.

CSVP: What was the inspiration for starting Wylde Folk Studio?

WFS: I actually never intended on starting a photography business! Before photography I was really happy in my current job as a wedding coordinator. It all started with taking photos of my daughter Summer as a baby and sharing them on my socials. I have always loved memory keeping. At first I had friends and family ask me to take photos of them and then I started getting messages from complete strangers asking if they could pay me to take some photos of their families too. It all happened so organically. I very quickly fell in deep love with being a part of preserving families memories. My daughters have always been my inspiration and my muse. It is such a privilege to be trusted by my clients to be there for them during the most special times of their lives.

CSVP: Who IS Tahlia?

WFS: I think I ask myself this question all the time. I wear so many different hats. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, business owner, essential oil lover, creative, Capricorn, traveller, a lot boho, a little bit hippy and always aim to bring a little more kindness where ever possible.

CSVP: What sets Wylde Folk Studio apart from other photography studios?

WFS: I think the thing that sets me apart from a lot of other photographers is my style and the experience I provide for my clients. I love all things light and airy and golden afternoon glows. My style is very much inspired by my European travels. Anyone can take a photo and whack a filter on it in this day and age but I want to make people FEEL something when they see my photos. I want their experience to be fun, relaxed and comfortable. I am a big advocate for not only getting photos done to just share on social media but to print and hang in your home to be loved for generations.

CSVP: What does your typical day look like?

WFS: I normally have my little Peachy alarm wake me up at 6.30am on the dot every morning, I bring her into bed for her morning milk and cuddles, mornings generally start pretty slow. At the moment we have been having porridge for breakfast every morning to warm ourselves up, the girls are such honey bears and can’t get enough. I then normally let them have some free play while I action any important emails before 10am. Each day is a little different but we are often either taking Summer to ballet, doing our spray free market shopping or catching up with friends for play dates during the week. I generally shoot 3-4 sessions a week so sometimes the girls are looked after by my hubby or family while I am out shooting. Once hubby comes home in the afternoon we often spend some time together either taking the girls down to the local beach, skate boarding in the street or eating gelato at our local Italian gelato shop. From 4pm hubby takes over the girls and does the dinner and bath routine and I start work in the office. I generally work on editing, blogging, marketing or sometimes the boring stuff like book work and accounting haha. Once the girls are in bed I will either join Jesse and catch up on our favourite Netflix shows or catch up on extra work as I tend to work late nights to avoid working too much when I have the girls awake as I want to be as present as possible for them.

CSVP: If you could only wear ONE beauty item every day, what would it be?

WFS: Yarrow Pom essential oil is my go to beauty product. It has changed my skin forever and I could not live without it. It’s a blend of yarrow essential oil combined with cold pressed pomegranate seed oil. It’s a powerful anti-aging concoction and I am all about that haha!

CSVP: What is your coffee/cafe order?

WFS: I generally have one coffee a day in the morning with breakfast but throughout the day I drink chai tea. In summer I love it iced and in winter warm, I can’t get enough.

CSVP: What is your most important piece of advice you give Wylde Folk Studio clients?

WFS: Oh I have some many tips and tricks I give my clients before a session I actually send out an email filled with info to help them prepare for our session together. Most people feel really nervous about looking awkward in front of the camera and its such a natural and normal thing to be nervous about. A lot to do with my job is actually based around making people feel comfortable, getting them to let their guar down and let me in. This is when the magic happens. As soon as somebody feels comfortable and relaxed it’s so easy for them to connect and in turn for me to capture that connection. My one piece of advice I guess is to trust me. I will simply guide my clients into poses but leave plenty of room for natural and candid photos. I find this gives them enough guidance so they don’t feel like they are just standing there but also enough freedom to be themselves and enjoy the moment. I always get so many compliments on how relaxed and fun my sessions are from my clients and in particular the “dads or husbands” which I think is just so cool!

CSVP: What do you do for self-care/relax?

WFS: I love a long bath, I am 100% a bath person, loaded up with essential oils and epson salts and you have yourself a very happy Tahlia. I also just love spending time with my girlfriends and filling my cup up with Aperol spritz when the opportunity arises. haha!

CSVP: What is the best thing that has come out of running Wylde Folk Studio?

WFS: I honestly have gained so much from starting Wylde Folk. I have grown so much as a person. Owning your own business can be very consuming on you in all your forms. It can affect your family, marriage, finances and wellbeing and that’s not always going to be in a positive way. You have to be willing to be disciplined and consistent always! But more than anything you have to have passion. Passion must always come first. I find that when you work towards creating something beautiful for someone else though you will always reap the rewards. I am so proud of Wylde Folk and the work that I do. It really is the biggest privilege.

CSVP: Favourite colour?

WFS: My husband would 100% say my favourite colour is white even though it’s not a colour. He’s probably right. I am all about those timeless shades or white, beige and light grey.

CSVP: Cocktail, champagne or wine?

WFS: Aperol spritz every single time.
