How often do you go to wardrobe and find nothing to wear? Usually this is because there is an overload of stand out pieces, and a lack of basics.
Below I’ve listed the basic bones of a Summer wardrobe. The essential mix and match items that you will use as the skeleton of most your outfits.
Jeans: Black, Dark Blue & Relaxed Fit
My personal favourite style of jeans is high waisted (tummy trimming, bulge reducing and bend-over proof), skinny leg (elongating, flattering and shows off beautiful curves) and 7/8 length (easily dressed up or down as the cheeky ankle length allows them to be worn with heels, flats and/or boots). Stretchy material that still holds its shape is also a must. Black and a dark wash are a must as they are extremely flattering, go with everything AND can be dressed up or down. A lighter wash and looser fit is much more casual which is great for outfit variety.

Jeanswest Freeform 360 High Waisted Skinny 7/8 Regal Indigo $129.00
Jeanswest Lois Luxe Lounge Slim Boyfriend $89.99
Shorts: Dress, Denim & Relaxed
Shorts tend to be too… well… short! But don’t let that deter you, the perfect length hits mid thigh, appropriate for all occasions without being too ‘mumsy’. Summer essentials are a more tailored, dress pair of shorts (black is easiest to dress up), relaxed fit denim shorts and a pair of comfortable relaxed shorts that still look good!
Witchery Structured Short $79.95
Jeanswest Kirstie Distressed Boyfriend Short $59.99
Jeanswest Nina Luxe Lounge Short $49.99
Pants: Dress, Casual & Print
There is life after jeans! Whilst jeans are an integral part of everybody’s wardrobe, so are pants! A good pair of black bengaline pants that can be dressed up with a blouse, a relaxed pair for casual outings, and a print pair to bring some variety are all equally important. Choose the print of your pant based on your personality, are you obsessed with leopard print? Do stripes make your heart sing? Are you a floral person? Make sure the base colour suits your colour preferences too, darker or lighter and monochrome or colourful. This will ensure you get the most wear out of the print pieces in your wardrobe.
Decjuba Lexi Bengaline Pant $99.95
Decjuba Luxe Twill Drop Crotch Pants $99.95
Decjuba Carolyn Soft Printed Pant $99.95
Skirts: Maxi, Denim & Dress
Be guided by your personal style and body type with which style of maxi skirt to choose, perhaps a high low hemline to balance out a top heavy or petite frame, or maybe you prefer a print to a plain colour. Denim skirts generally speaking the darker the wash the more versatile they will be. With the dress skirt choose something that you will be able to dress up, suits your body type and won’t date.
Decjuba Ava Wrap Mini Skirt $89.95
Decjuba Georgina Step Hem Mini Skirt $79.95
Country Road High Waisted Stretch Knit Skirt $99.95
Tanks & Tees: Casual Basics
Once again, choose according to your body shape and style preference. For tanks, do you like thicker straps to hide a bra strap? Or do you prefer a thin strap to show off your décolletage? For Tees do you like a v neck, or perhaps a crew? Do you like a fitted or relaxed style? When you find the basics that work for you, invest in a few neutral colours to mix and match through your outfits. And add a stripe tank & tee as well, as they make such an easy and classic outfit when paired with any of your bottoms.
Decjuba Skyla Textured Cami $39.95
Decjuba Luxe Scoop Petal Hem Tee $39.95
Decjuba Carrie Stripe Scoop Neck Tee $39.95
Tops: Cami, White Buttoned & Chambray
Cami’s are a capsule wardrobe’s most underrated item. Cute with denim shorts, dressy with bengaline slacks and chic with a maxi. Choose neutral tones to blend in with your base wardrobe, and add some prints for fun. A white button up shirt and chambray shirt are amazing for layering over cami’s, tanks, dresses and playsuits for extra coverage (don’t forget to #KnotTieTuck) they also look amazing dressed up or down.
Decjuba Alison Lace Trim Cami $49.95
Decjuba Mott Oversized Shirt $99.95
Country Road Denim Shirt $79.95
Outerwear: Denim Jacket, Blazer & Kimono
I absolutely cannot live without a denim jacket, and in fact have multiple! But a great fitting, perfectly cropped denim jacket in a mid wash will go with absolutely everything in your wardrobe. It’s a must, and worth investing in a good quality piece as your cost per wear will be incredibly low. A sleek blazer is also a wardrobe staple, paired with bengaline pants and cami it’s immediately dressy and chic, paired with jeans and stripe tee it’s effortlessly casual. And for those days you feel like a bit of extra coverage without the warmth, a kimono is a must. A fun print takes it next level.
Decjuba Luxe Sienna Denim Jacket $139.95
Decjuba Lani Relaxed Blazer $99.95
Decjuba Alena Longline Kimono Jacket $109.95
Dresses & Playsuits: Dressy & Casual
The amount of dresses vs playsuits is completely up to your personal style, but the formula should be dressy black/plain colour, casual and one that can be either. I have a black wrap dress as the plain coloured dressy item, a wide legged jumpsuit that can be dressed down with white sneakers and denim jacket or up with heels, and a stripe relaxed dress for casual.
Decjuba Karen Wrap Dress $49.95
Decjuba Selena Wide Leg Jumpsuit $64.95
Decjuba Luxe Boyfriend Tank Dress $69.95
Shoes: White Sneakers, Heels & Flats
My three staple footwear styles that I wear endlessly are white sneakers, comfortable block heels and leather slides. You would be surprised how much white sneakers go with dresses and skirts, not just shorts and pants. A comfortable pair of tan heels will be a godsend in your shoedrobe, dressing up outfits and going with absolutely everything! And just because you’re wearing slides doesn’t mean they have to be shabby or uncomfortable, leather slides mold to your foots and are incredibly comfortable while still being dressy.
Vionic Shoes Leah Casual Sneaker $199.95
TSID Clothing Jamira Heels $89.95
Cobble Lane H Slide $59.95
Now this may seem like a lot of items for a BASIC CAPSULE, however you don’t have to add anything to this list if you don’t want to! I will be doing ADD ON CAPSULES for seasonal, event, corporate etc over the next few weeks, so make sure you’ve signed up to the newsletter list so you don’t miss a thing!
