Hello Lovelies!
It has been awhile since my last 9 PIECES | 9 OUTFITS Post (I aim to do them seasonally), being quite sick for most of this year thwarted those plans! However the silver lining is that I have had ample opportunity to test out the pieces in the Maternity Capsule Wardrobe edition! Even though it feels like you’re pregnant for an eternity, you either don’t have the inclination or budget to spend on a vast wardrobe that you’ll only wear for 6-9 months. I’ve pulled together a mix of maternity and non-maternity pieces that will see you through your whole pregnancy and beyond. Shoes and accessories are key in a capsule wardrobe, and whilst not included in the nine pieces, I have kept them to a minimum with a high rotation to show versatility. Investing in a collection of good quality accessories will give you even more options when styling.
Firstly let me introduce you to the nine core pieces:
New Look Maternity Over The Bump Jegging $40.00 (Available via ASOS)
New Look Maternity Over The Bump Jegging Washed Black (Sold Out – Similar ASOS MATERNITY PETITE Ridley Skinny Jean In Clean Black With Over The Bump Waistband $50.00)
Kmart Longline Tank Top (Black and White) $6.00 each
White Haven Emporium by PQ Essential Cropped Denim Jacket $39.99 (On Sale was $79.95)
Kmart Basic Chambray Shirt $17.00
She Street Valentina Cardi – Blush $59.00
Ripe Maternity Cocoon Tank Dress $79.95
Blossom & Glow Grey Bailey Tee Dress $79.00
Shoes & Accessories:
Now 9 pieces including accessories and shoes is just. not. doable. Well not in my books anyway, but I have kept those used today to bare minimum for those who prefer a limited wardrobe. But! Remember that accessories are the easiest, cheapest and non size related (i.e. you won’t size out of them) items to joosh and change any outfit!
Dotti Squad Boater Hat (Sold Out – Similar Lack of Color Spencer Boater Hat $69.00)
Frankie4 Footwear Liz Boots Tan (Sold Out – Similar Frankie4 Footwear Izzy $299.95)
Frankie4 Footwear Liz Boots Black (Sold Out – Similar Frankie4 Footwear Ashley $299.95)
Spendless-Shoes Quinn Heels $49.99
Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Dainty Ballet Slip White $70.00
LOOK 1:
The perfect pregnancy and beyond outfit – Stretchy Dress + Cardigan. The beauty of adding some cute cardigans to your maternity wardrobe is that you will be able to continue to wear them for many years to come. Plus they’re an easy and affordable way to change up the look of more expensive maternity purchases such as this tank dress or maternity jeans.
LOOK 2:
Maternity dresses are a little bit of an investment, most are around the $100 mark (which when you may not continue to wear it after Bub is born is a little pricey). The ruching on the sides of this tank dress will give you extra coverage for post baby body though and black is always that much more forgiving. Casually styled with denim jacket and kicks it’s the perfect run around outfit.
LOOK 3:
Because maternity dresses are so flattering on a bump and super comfortable, a second colour is definitely a requirement in my capsule wardrobe, and this gorgeous grey is the perfect addition. Paired with a light chambray shirt (tied but can be worn loose for extra coverage) and tab boots, it’s a cute and easy outfit for everyday.
LOOK 4:
The gorgeous grey dress is glammed up with the blush cardigan and nude heels for the perfect event or date night outfit, blush and grey are such a gorgeous colour combination you can’t go wrong! Again the ruching on the sides of this dress will mean you can wear it after bub is born as well.
LOOK 5:
Maternity jeans are a must have, and the stretchier the better! Two pairs are mandatory because they’ll be in high rotation, you may even replace or add to your collection as the pregnancy continues! I prefer over the bump personally, I grow big babies and the extra support is welcome! I regularly wear this outfit (and colour variations of it) because it’s easy and comfortable.
LOOK 6:
You can easily dress up your maternity jeans with some comfy block heel booties and cardigan, add some bling with a statement necklace or earrings and you’re ready for a night out (if you don’t turn into a pumpkin after 8pm like I do!).
LOOK 7:
Double Denim Maternity Style! This affordable chambray shirt is on high rotation and works well with jeans and dresses. Also available in a dark wash and black wash, I will admit to having them all!
LOOK 8:
How gorgeous does the blush look when paired with denim and white, so fresh! And yes, it’s warm enough to wear the arms pushed up in the middle of Brinter (Brisbane Winter).
LOOK 9:
This outfit is perfect for during pregnancy and post, you can still get coverage from the ruching on the dress plus wearing the chambray shirt loose, plus with the stretchy fabric, the dress is feeding friendly (although not made specifically for breastfeeding access).

Lots of great looks from your 9 pieces Rachael! Love essential pieces you can mix and match.

Thank you Steph! There’s so many more looks that can be created, nine is the minimum! We tend to stick to favourites when dressing, so making sure they work together makes life so much easier! Xx

Hi lovely, Am currently pregnant and came across all your great maternity posts 🙂 I just bought the converse you recommended. Did you find that they were quite narrow and tight when you first bought them? I am finding them quite tight in the width, but maybe I should persist and try and stretch them out, because I do love them.

Hi Kate!
Congratulations, how exciting! I hope you find something useful in the blogs x
Converse are a bit of a pain to break in, did you go up one size? I’m currently breaking a new pair in as well so I feel your pain (literally! Ha ha!) once you’ve broken them in they’re the comfiest and easiest to wear shoes, so definitely persevere if you love them! I found wearing them around the house with socks on was the least painful way to break them in xx
