5 Minute Beauty Routine

Hello Lovelies!

As busy Mamas it can be easy to put yourself very last on the list when you’re rushing around in the morning getting everyone ready for work, school, kindy etc. And then you end up feeling less than bright when you realise you LOOK as tired as you FEEL.

Many of you don’t know that my background is actually in beauty therapy. I studied Beauty Therapy straight out of high school and worked in the industry up until December 2015 when I retired to focus on Ruby & Lilli. I do still use my skills on friends and family on occasion and do the odd formal or wedding makeup.

I used to be a product snob, and still love my higher end products, but have fallen in love with NYX… I have skin that reacts with congestion very easily however I wear all the below products daily and have had no reaction. The colour pay off is fantastic and they wear really well. So why pay a fortune when you can easily add some fresh colours into your budget with these fab products!

My list of ‘everyday’ products may seem standard to some, and over the top to others… but I promise they’re very easy to use and you can achieve a very soft and natural everyday look in 5 minutes with them!

HAIR

Dry Shampoo: This is such a godsend for Mamas! Not only does it give you an extra day or two out of washes, but if you have fine hair like I do it adds much needed volume and texture.

Day 2-4 for me is dry shampoo, middle part and a low back pony/bun (when you start with a pony but don’t pull out the tail on the last loop). I give my hair much needed height and shape by first gathering the back of my crown into a little quiff, twisting and holding with a bobby pin, then I do my pony/bun.

That was just one Minute!

FACE

BB Cream: The Beauty Therapist in me urges you not to forgo your moisturiser even though BB & CC creams tell you they have moisturising properties. You need to look after your skin to the best of your abilities and a BB cream aint going to cut it! BUT they’re magic for giving you a more even skin tone and a little bit of coverage on daily basis.

For a light coverage, just apply with fingers and smooth over your entire face, ensuring you blend evenly. For a bit more coverage (for me this is my T-Zone and eye-bags) I apply a thicker layer on my t-zone then use what’s left on my fingers to blend down by throat. I wait a minute (I do this before my hair, so by the time I’ve done my mini up-do it’s set enough) then blend evenly outwards. If I have a blemish I just dab a little extra onto the spot.

[NYX BB CREAM (I WEAR GOLDEN) $9.00 (USUALLY $19.99)]

Finishing Powder: As I have an oily complexion and don’t love shine, I set my t-zone with a finishing powder (this also gives the BB cream a little extra staying power).

BB Cream & Powder just took one minute!

[NYX MINERAL FINISHING POWDER (I WEAR MEDIUM DARK) $18.95]

Brows: I tint my eyebrows regularly AND have had them tattooed. I naturally have dark ash blonde hair so my brows are also fair, and sparse unfortunately. As I always dye by hair darker I dye my eyebrows as well… I prefer eyebrows to be a shade or two darker than my hair as well. This means that when they’re freshly tinted I just add a little tinted brow mascara/gel to keep them in place and they’re done. If I’ve been lazy (or sick) and haven’t tinted in a while then I also add a little powder.

[NYX TINTED BROW MASCARA (I WEAR BRUNETTE) $12.95]

Illuminator: Brighten those tired eyes Mamas! It literally takes 30 seconds and makes SUCH a difference. Pop a dab of the illuminator onto your pointer fingers then press a little into the corners of your eyes, the brow bone and the top of your cheek bones (if your so inclined I also add a little to my cupids bow in the hopes of making my lips look a bit bigger).

[NYX BORN TO GLOW LIQUID ILLUMINATOR (I WEAR SUNBEAM) $10.46 (USUALLY $14.95)]

Mascara: Nothing makes a bigger difference than framing your eyes with well groomed eyebrows and luscious lashes! I have been using this mascara for years and LOVE it. It gives length AND volume without being clumpy or flaking. Give those lashes of yours a few coats and you’re done!

[MAYBELLINE COLOSSAL VOLUM’ EXPRESS MASCARA (I WEAR CLASSIC BLACK) $19.95]

Blush: Don’t forget blush! A little bit of the right colour adds a healthy and youthful glow that hides tiredness and adds cheekbones. What’s not to love! Remember to start off slowly and build colour so you don’t look like a clown. I always recommend a pinky peach tone as this is universally flattering for all hair and skin colours, and goes well with most lipstick and eyeshadow colours as well.

Eyes & Cheeks should have taken a minute and half to two minutes max. I allow extra time because I like to layer on the mascara 😉

[NYX BAKED BLUSH (I WEAR FOREPLAY) $8.36 (USUALLY $11.95)]

Lips: So you’ve just spent 4 minutes on your face and hair and you’ve still got one minute to spare. Add a slick of gloss with a hint of colour to finish your look and you’re done! And boy Mama don’t you look fab!

[NYX BUTTER GLOSS (I HAVE MANY BUT MY FAVOURITE NUDE IS CREME BRULEE) $9.95]
